I used two layers of good-quality white muslin to make a custom cover for the ironing board.

I also made an ironing "table top" to go on top of the ironing board, and it's covered with one layer of thin batting and a layer of heavy canvas, stapled to the back.

It's just about destroyed, and I keep meaning to make another one. Next time, I will put a layer of heavy-duty foil between the batting and the plywood, and I'll make a giant "pillowcase" type cover that I can pull off and wash when it gets full of starch, markings, etc.
