There is a machine pieced version of the cathedral windows that is made the same way as the 10 minute block. The only difference is that you add the diagonal square to each corner. When it is pieced originally, you can only see the diagonal squares. Then you add the fabric to the center and fold the edges over that. Now you can see the background and just a sliver of the diagonal fabric around the center.
