When we did orphanage quilts, our homemakers group used bright doubleknit fabrics - some of you may remember the pants suits we all wore - and serged them. Mostly Trip Around the World. Then they were layered with a high loft batting and pillow-case turned and tied thoroughly.
Laundering is pretty vigorous over there. We wanted the quilts to last.
