I saw some fabric similar if not JUST like the "water" in this quilt in the 4th of July fabric section at the local Joann's. Don't know if it's too late to get 4th of July fabric now but I'd check the discounted sections at Joanns to make sure they don't have something you can use. Batik fabric is also a great suggestion.
