It doesn't matter on the 319. The needle bar seems to hit the hopping foot in a weird spot. I've found lowering the feed dogs is my preference on any machine. And I have so many that if a machine doesn't have the capability, I use one that does.
Candace I am glad your cat is all better; and, yes she is worth her weight in gold literally! My little Mowgli is also worth his weight in gold - probably worth a little more as he only weighs 4lbs and I bet your cat weighs a lot more than that!
Let us know if you find a hopping foot that works on the 319w! I will look too! Maybe Cathy has one?
