This is really quite simple - sew a double strip, use a 60-degree ruler to make triangles, sew three units with lighter color centers, and three with darker color centers together to make one hex - kind of a yin and yang thing. If you look closely, you will see that there are two of each hex, half and half.
Yep, that is how I would do it. Kaye Wood has a pattern called 'Stacking My Blocks' that works on this principle....
