I buy alot of Moda and I shop online I buy from Crazyquiltgirlshop.com, keepsake quilting, Hancocks of paducah. I buy from Etsy when I'm trying to find an older fabric or a certain fabric I need more of. I only had one weird experience and that was with JandOfabrics and I'm hoping it was an isolated event. I ordered like 8 yards of fabric for a backing and when it arrived the tape to seal the envelope was covered in bird seed, the fabric was fine and wrapped but I thought it was super odd that someone would seal an envelope with tape with bird seed stuck to it.
On a side note I just saw some pirate fabric bugfabric.com has some. I have not bought from them but I've been looking for certain fabric so I been to tons of shops online. I'm looking for White Tiger fabric and can't believe I can't find it so I feel you!
