Use straight vinegar, no water. If you've never cleaned out your iron before, you'll want to do this process 3 times, making sure you use water to rinse out the chunks that come loose, before starting the next process. This will not hurt your iron, coffee maker, humidifier, etc. It will give your iron a new life! I have a blog post with photos if you can't find the instructions I posted earlier....
