Yes you can, but it's not something some people do because of the lack of throat space and a large percentage of people prefer to FMQ with the foot dogs down. I FMQ sometimes on machines that don't lower their feed dogs, but for me the throat space is everything. You should look into the 301 if you want a lightweight, vintage machine that can drop it's feed dogs. Of course you can research the 15's and 201's as well to keep the larger throat area.
