You obviously don't live in the Midwest where it is in the triple digits with 95% humidity in the summer. lol. It would be nice if it was cool enough to need a summer weight quilt. Please post a photo of your finished quilt.
My mother was raised in Independence and I've spent many a summer visiting my grandparents there - so I know what you mean.
That said, I still like some sort of cover in the summer - but when it is that hot it is usually just a sheet.
