I started my DIL sewing three Christmas ago. She wanted some table runners for the holiday. We sewed while Chirstmas dinner was cooking and used them that day. We used my sewing machine for the project. Since that Christmas, she has her own machine and have made several projects on her own. I live in Missouri and she lives in Houston TX, so we do not get together often. They were at my house the last couple of days, and I started my 6 year old granddaughter sewing now. We picked out 100 3" sqares and sewed them together to make a quilt for her. She did a good job. We had some fun together. So, I am guilty of starting the next two generations sewing or quilting. Happy time together.
