the flying geese/8-patch quilt is actually a (charm) quilt= made completely with 5" squares---easy pattern for both parts---
take a 5" square of colored fabric and put it on top of a background 5" square- stitch a 1/4" seam down the 2 sides- line up ruler on edge of one stitched side- cut down the center at 2 1/2"- press toward the darker- then nest the 2 seams so the darker are opposite each other- line up the two blocks and again-stitch down the 2 sides- again cut at 2 1/2"- now you have 2 4=patches- stitch them together to make the 8-patch block
then put a background & a color fabric 5" squares together with a diagonal line down the center of the lighter fabric- stitch 1/4" on each side of the diagonal line- cut apart on the line- press one toward the background the other toward the colored fabric-- put together to form the flying geese blocks-
lay them out in a (pleasing) order - stitch together in vertical rows----i put together the 8-patch rows first then layed them out on the floor & layed the flying geese blocks in between 2 rows so i could decide what colors to put where.
easy scrappy quilt-
