If I had this panel I would "frame" them in a wood grain (like Joel Dewberry's wood grains), and piece in a printed or stamped title plate, or an info card like you would see at the museum. Then a light neutral like a white or light grey to suggest a wall behind the painting. You could even get fabric with different gold stampings in intricate designs to suggest fancy carved frames.
ETA: Forgot to mention that Tula Pink's book has a quilt that looks like paintings hanging on a wall- different sized blocks framed and scattered irregularly on a background.
