Elizabeth does other shapes of quilting with terrific results. I think working with the quilt like this would make it easier to deal with the various shapes, since you aren't having to fight the bulk of the quilt on your lap. I have found that pulling the quilt toward me is easier than pushing it away, especially when the quilt gets tugged by the edge of the sewing table. It would take some getting used to for me to have my left arm under the quilt. If you read some of the comments she got there are more answers from her about specific questions.
