The scrim in W&N (made out of polyester BTW) is the ONLY thing that allows quilting that far apart. If you want to quilt that far apart Hobbs cotton batting with the scrim you can quilt up to 8" apart (although connecting threads claims up to 10" on this product I would trust the manufacturere first). so yes you CAN compare hobbs to W&N.

However when I made my comparison above, I was referring to how the batting needled (for hand quilting) the feel of the batting to the touch, and it's drape so I can see where you would be confused. I never quilt that far apart anyway, Either by hand or machine. I just don't think it looks very nice but that is my opinion. If you like quilting far apart there are loads of choices out there that are much less expensive than W&N which was the OP topic.
