I rarely do actual T shirts. I have done transfers with a couple of different brands. Some work really well, some not at all well, although they were brands I usually trust. These days, I prepare my (print for quilts) fabrics using Bubble Jet and print with my HP printer. I greatly prefer the results. I iron the prepared fabric onto 9x11 1/2" freezer paper, trim it to 8.5x11 and run it through my printer. I prefer to use Moda muslin, although several friends prefer Kona. Oddly enough, white 'duck' does really well too. Many years ago, I bought a huge amount of superb handkerchief linen (under 10 cents a yard, so I bought all I could!) It takes the print dyes really well too.
