My D1 free motions pretty well IF I stick to cotton threads. It will not take any kind of specialty thread and behave itself. I have heard this about SE's as well although some ladies seem to do fine with them. Make up some practice sandwiches, and go over and play! The Yahoo group for this machine should be helpful as well.
