My understanding is that most warnings like that apply to the vapor form of a product, which is actually a liquid that has been aerosolized. Usually it is the liquid carrier, or the gaseous propellant, that is the problem, and the adhesive itself is relatively inert once the carrier or propellant has evaporated/dispersed. Think of it like nail polish - once the acetone (or whatever) liquid carrier of the color has evaporated the polish itself is harmless (you don't have to avoid chips of dried nail polish, but you wouldn't sit around drinking or inhaling it before it has dried!)

Now I suppose I should add a legal sounding disclaimer explaining that I am not an inorganic chemist, nor a lawyer, and cannot be held responsible yadda yadda yadda...
