I would recommend to take any newly made & finished rag quilt(s) to the laundromat for at least 2 times (a few more times to be on the safe side) before washing/drying at home. I place the quilts in a front loading machine & don't pack them inside-very loosely. I run the machine at a regular cycle-opting for a prewash cycle if available. I dry the quilts in a dryer also loosely with not too many items inside the drum itself.
