Default Karen Hanken, art quilter, at guild this morning

We had the most fascinating lecture and trunk show this morning at the quilt guild meeting in Salem, OR. Karen Hanken showed us her art quilts! This is a link to some of them that we saw in person - http://www.topstitchbernina.com/kare...rt_quilts.html - but the pictures do NOT do justice to the quilts. The colors are much more vibrant in person, and the quilts are so amazing. From a distance you get the overall impression of a painting by Grandma Moses, and on closer view you see the tiny details in the fabrics. The quilts are pieced using foundation fabric (not paper). Unfortunately, Karen doesn't give classes on how she makes these. If she did... I would be driving down to Medford right now. Karen and her husband own the Bernina shop/quilt shop in Medford, OR. (It must be nice to own a quilt shop...)
