It sounds to me that she isn't quite committed to the guy she is going to marry. If she was, she would be more into what the soon-to-be Inlaws were doing, and care a little more. This is her way of not hurting anyone's feelings. Go ahead and make your quilt, or what you should like, if it doesn't work out between the couple, the you made something for yourself. Good luck.
