you should always leave long thread top and bottom beginning and end and tie a knot and then work into back of the quilt you do not have a mess at either end doing this
I would pick out the row of stitches that are coming loose and re-sew them using a hand-quilting knot on both ends that is buried in the batting of the quilt. Knots on the back of a quilt look awful and can come untied if the quilt is used and washed.
