I started quilting about a year and a half ago when I had finished embroidering five tractor blocks. I had asked my mom, who is an avid quilter along with my aunt) to put them in a quilt for me and she had so many quilts going at the time she couldn't take it on. She suggested I do it myself! I have been in a wheelchair for over five years now and haven't been able to use my machine since and was not even sure how to even begin! So I decided to jump in head first and have now finished four quilts that arae a little bigger than a throw and have one I am quilting now and two more that I am working on block for. I usually try to add in some of my embroidered blocks into them and so far they have been for family members. It helped when my mother and aunt looked at the first quilt and told me they couldn't believe the accuracy of all my stitching with piecing and the actual quilting. I have not used patterns but draw out what I think might look good and go from there. I did find out that one of the quilts is similar to log cabin pattern but just a little different! Now it has become one of the many hobbies I love to do and will continue on indefinitely! I also do crocheting, doilies and framed names; miniature building; gardening! The gardening is short lived because I live in North Dakota but that just leaves extra time for quilting!
I found out recently that my great grandmother was an avid quilter all by hand also and also loved miniatures and she is the one who started me in crocheting but I learned even more with my grandmother. They are both gone now and I am so happy to keep this tradition alive and to put them together I built a miniature fabric and quilt shop! Some of the pics of this look like an actual shop from the angle they are and I will be giving this to my mother for Christmas this year along with a Christmas table runner I am working on with my quilting! I am so happy to find this site where people share ideas and can ask questions!
