Default Wisconsin Quilt Museum

I visited the Wisconsin Museum of Quilts and Fiber Arts in Cedarburg, WI this past Saturday and really enjoyed it.

Cedarburg is about 20 miles north of Milwaukee and is a quaint town with many shops full of interesting things. There's even a winery! A great "destination" town for anyone looking for a great day trip.

The quilt museum is right on the edge of town in an old barn that has been refurbished and added on to. It's been open less than a year. Currently, there are 3 exhibits there. One is the art quilts of Nancy Zieman (of PBS's "Sewing with Nancy" fame), one is a private collection of "cheddar" quilts, mainly from the mid to late 1800's, and the third exhibit is from the Chicago School of Fusibles. Those are all stunning art quilts that have fused pieces that are then quilted over. All displayed in a huge, high ceiling-ed, post and beam barn. There has been new lighting added to highlight the quilts to their best advantage. There's also a tiny gift shop. The current exhibits will be in place until July. Then, Navajo quilts will be the next display, with a title something like "Walk in My Mocassins".

It's not a big place nor a large exhibit, but it's wonderful! The museum is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
