, I've always used a cotton poly mix - mostly coats n clark as that's what I had on hand and what was passed down from my Grandma (along with her 1968 workhorse of a machine) I was actually told by a sew shop that you should match the thread to the fabric, and since I use cotton poly mix's and other blended fabrics, it makes sense. I've made many baby quilts that get used a LOT and washed as much. Several are 7+ yrs old and still holding up great
