I buy kimchi and reuse the wide mouth bottles and plastic lids, they tend to smell pretty bad. I wash them out really well with soap and water then leave the lid off them for awhile in a well ventilated area-like in front of a window. If I put the lid back on and put them up right after I wash them, then the smell stays pretty long. Time usually takes care of the smell.
