I haven't done the babyville diapers, but I got a pattern on e-bay and once the diaper is finished, it is shaped like a disposable diaper. It is super easy, just cut two pieces for the front and back (inside of the diaper), put a couple layers of microfiber to absorb the urine, then sew elastic around the leg openings, sew the front and back together leaving an opening, pull the diaper through to the outside, stitch the opening closed and ta-da--- it is diaper.
I know I haven't answered you question about your pattern, but don't get discouraged, I'm sure you are doing it right.
