But I'm glad to know that there is this wonderful set of responses that I can turn to when the fabric has aged enough. ;-)

And that may be enough. I've done that, gotten it out in a year and liked what I had done...or had an inspiration.

When I was first starting to cross stitch, I made some mistakes on this huge project (I started BIG) and I didn't know what to do. I put it away. Then, after several years, and more cross stitching, I got it back out. I saw that I had done a lot of work, decided I could adjust the pattern (the mistake was in the flowers and actually quite easy to fix once I had some experience) and finished it. It turned out beautifully!

So, your idea to let it "mature" may not be all that bad of an idea.
