No special tool involved. Preactice this on a piece of paper first. Just cut a large square to whatever size you want. I would think 10 inches would be good. Then cut in two; corner to corner to make two triangles. At the top point end of the triangle, measure on either side about 1.5 inches. Make a mark. Find the middle of the long side and measure over from middle about 1/2 inch on either side and make a mark. Then draw a line from each dot on flat bottom up to dot on same side on either side of pointy part. That makes your pattern. Use that to make a template to cut out multiple pieces until you have enough for all the blocks you need. You need 4 pieces for each block. Wish I knew how to get a picture on here to show you. It is really easier than it sounds. This way you can make the 'center star' part as wide or as skinny as you wish.
