quilters dream puff is a very good batting it is poly. I have NEVER had a poly beard.
I have used very high loft wool 2 inches thick. it was ridiculously warm. I tied that quilt. there is also a black poly out there it is excellent as well. I like thick quilts so generally do not use cotton battings.
