I'm sure you can. But I think it is easier to learn machine quilting when the machine moves, not when the fabric moves. Free motion quilting is kind of like trying to write with a stationary pencil, by moving the paper underneath it. If the frame comes with the machine, and you have the room to set it up, I think you should at least give it a try before you modify a table and fit the longarm into a table. There is a learning curve, but it is an easier one thank the one you tackle with fmq'ing, imho.
