CD, I like your idea a lot. But the idea of sacrificing my old straight leg treadle makes me tear up. So I'll have to wait till I find one with out a top and machine.

might just be time to dust off the TIG welder and tackle a real project. Keep hammering away you might just shame me into doing a treadle in Aluminum.
as for the table surface.... I have been doing some vacuum infusion molding with Carbon Fibre. I wonder if it would be to "hollow" sounding and loud? it certainly would not be traditional ;-)
