I started my very first quilt in July of 2006, thought the fabrics were too garish to be in a quilt, and finally finished it in January 2012. My tastes must have changed, because I loved the quilt when it was done.

I just joined a new guild on Thursday, and if I remember correctly one of the members brought in a quilt that was made from a UFO about 30 years old.
