I have never entered a quilt in a contest but recently a judge came over to me at our guild meeting and told me to enter some things in our upcoming quilt show. "No way," I said. She told me that if I could accept constructive comments I would have a learning experience in it. I am still not confident enough to do it, but will some day. After all it is just "one" persons opinion. Give it a try and let us know what the outcome is.
