I've done that with jewel tone velvets, lined them with satin and they turned out simply smashing! I've done corduroy quilts out of my toddler's pants (she's now 37) and used batting, but I'm in northern New England. I would use a flannel 'liner' if I were in your climate, or even just a cotton sheet. It helps protect the seam allowances from rubbing together on the inside.

Now that's a thought. At least I know they would be appreciated. Thanks for the tip on the batting'sheet. And I WILL do the stockings. What a great idea. I have a cute little pattern that I use with spiralling. And I have ecru lace that was a skirt I wore in my sister's wedding. Oh, you've got my wheels turning now! Thanks a bunch.
