Jan, I have a 1953 301a, and I just LOVE her to pieces!! She is my piecing machine....her straight stitches are just perfectly straight, and make the most accurate seams I have ever gotten for quilting. I love the little tick, tick, tick sound she makes while sewing, and although it "feels" lightweight, it sews very strong. I never have a problem going over thicker seams. I even sew through some seams that my modern low-end Brother machine will not sew through.
My daughter says shes never sewing with any other machines again. She made a purse on my 301a and loves it. That will stand until she sews on the 503 and then she changes her mind. I love both of them as well as my FW.
