Default Need advice on 301 handwheel fix

Hello all, it's been awhile. Curse that garden and all life responsibilities that keep me from sewing and hanging out here.

I am fixing up a 301 for someone, and have run into an issue that I've never dealt with before. When I turn the handwheel towards me to release the pressure foot to fill a bobbin, it does not completely release the pressure foot. By that I mean the pressure foot will stay still for a few seconds, and than start to move. When I tighten the handwheel after trying to fill a bobbin it doesn't have the satisfying stop of my own 301.

Basically the screw that holds the silver part does not hit on one of the three studs when tightening, and when loosening hits the stud too early. Seems like an easy fix right? Just take the handwheel apart and rotate the washer that holds the three studs 180 degrees as stated in the repair manual. I found a copy of this on scribd (which sucks now, you have to pay to download!) Anyway, here is a link to the manual:http://www.scribd.com/doc/62050002/S...Service-Manual

If anyone has a copy of this I would love it. Anyway, I rotated the washer 180 degrees like it says to do in the manual, and thought I had fixed the issue, but it still does not work correctly. I admit I didn't take apart all of the pieces, like the handwheel snap ring, but I don't think it will affect the washer?

The only other issue I have with this machine is that there is a spring that's broken that needs to be replaced. It is under the upper tension adjustment on top of the machine. I have to have the upper tension screwed down all of the way for the machine to sew correctly because of the broken spring. Other than that the machine works great.

Has anyone here ever dealt with this? Thanks.
