if you do a search on this board, there are several members who have made oh my gosh quilts. i am making a quilt with 1.5" squares and use my regular rowenta iron (which is a monster size) just fine. however, i believe the size pieces you will be working with here are smaller so a mini clover iron may benefit you well.
good luck with your project and i will be looking forward to seeing your progress and eventual finished quilt. this quilt will not be added to my bucket list.
i will just admire it from afar as it is a beautifully amazing quilt project.
