I have done it to a number of quilts; mostly ones that have a country look. I used pearl cotton and a larger needle. They work up a lot faster than traditional quilting, and the look can be quite striking. When I do a trunk show at my classes, most of the students pay a lot of attention to those samples.

I first saw the technique on Simply Quilts. Billie Lauder has a book out about it. If you have access to Sashiko supplies, those needles work well.
