When you go the fabric store, ask them to measure the usable width (between the selvedges) of the fabrics you choose for the big squares. To cut 4 squares across, which the yardages require, you will need 42" of usable fabric. If you don't have that much, you will need another 11" of each fabric for the big squares, which put you just shy of a full yard.
