I use the smallest needle possible when satin stitiching... that may stitches close together you want the smallest hole possible. I would still use a ball point needle as the more rounded tip will help in to not pierce the fiber and run the knit. Sometimes the runs do not show up until the first wash. A ball point needle is designed to push the fibers aside rather than pierce through the fiber.
