Hi Grannysewer, you may find that your machine never had a motor. Take the lid off (2 screws on the top of the machine) and see if there is a nylon gear wheel attached to the balance wheel. If there is no nylon gear wheel then you have a treadle machine and will need both a motor and a replacement balance wheel complete with gear. I have been looking for a treadle balance wheel for my machine for some time so if yours has a treadle balance wheel I would happily supply you with an electric balance wheel in exchange for your balance wheel.
