My understanding was that most starches use a rice base and that is what attracts bugs. I do know that the Niagra in the spray bottle does not include any rice products - I couldn't find it on the bottle so I emailed them. That being said I used regular starch for many years and never had a problem, but just to be on the safe side I went to the Niagara spray bottle and stayed there because I like it.
