by the way.... a note on brown fabrics [of which I have several due to some erroneous advice regarding Civil War]...

Jane Stickle's quilt is very bright - not brown. The brown, drab fabrics were not produced until after the Civil War and Jane used her antebellum stash. It was too expensive to buy fabric so most "Civil War" quilts made during the time frame are bright. The fabrics made in the early-mid 1800s were among the brightest produced.

I have a mixture because I started my first three blocks very drab and then I became curious as to why all "Civil War" repros were so bright and I had ordered lots! I asked a couple of qualified quilt appraisers and the above info is what I was told and I read it as well.

I have a mixture and may just include some of the pieces of my Mom's clothing as well as time marches on.
