Did you look in the pharmacy section for the small humidifiers? I can't imagine those places wouldn't have any at all. Other places to try would be hardware stores.
We have a whole-house humidifier in addition to central heat/AC and can adjust a dial to keep the humidity inside the house within certain limits no matter what is going on outside.
