I had to do the baltic puzzle block twice, for exactly that reason: my first one came out at barely 12 inches, and I was peeved. So I revisited the scant 1/4" instructions, and made sure I used those on that puzzle block. I don't know about anyone else, but I
really had to stick to scant 1/4" seams everywhere in order to come out with a 12 1/2 inch block. In fact, I ended up shaving off just a touch to make it 12 1/2" square that second time around. I've been very careful with the next blocks. With March, it called for 6 1/2" squares, and I used 7" squares. So I'm thinking that a true professional could make it work with the material sized the way they have it, but I need to give myself a little breathing room, because my March block came out needing
very little squaring up!
