Then I sub-cut each block this way:

After sub-cutting and squaring up, I switched the sections like a Disappearing 9patch.

That’s how I did it the simpler way. After cutting the highlight color into 5-1/4” strips and subcutting, it only took about half an hour or so to do four blocks. I spent about 25 hours making the entire quilt. If I’d tried cutting 672 - 2-1/2” squares I’d still be cutting (actually, I’d have round-filed it and gone on to something else).
