I remember some of these things too. I worked with a lady that made all of her slips and undies out of a WW2 parachute. I was dumfounded. But she did. they must have been good on the sewing machine.
I sorta wish my mom would have thought of making undies out of her old wedding dress... LOL She knit a coat and then she used the silk from the dress to line the coat. She said she figured all us girls would grow too big to wear her old wedding dress besides she said it would turn yellow before we got married... The front of that dress was all hand smocked. The back had 200 covered buttons and loops... I wonder what she did with the parts that didn't line the coat? She probably won't remember doing any of it.
