I wouldn't use any batting with scrim for hand quilting. The scrim is an extra layer to quilt through. W&N is needlepunched through scrim. Although some people hand quilt it, it is definitely not the easiest type of batting to hand quilt. Quilter's Dream Request is a popular cotton batting for hand quilters. Hobbs 80/20 is fine for both hand and machine quilting, but has a higher loft than QD.
