You could cut the strips to any combination that adds up to 7-1/2 inches to go with a 6-1/2 inch 'block'
2-1/2, 2-1/2, 2-1/2
2-3/4, 2, 2-3/4
1-1/4, 5, 1-1/4
3, 1-1/2, 3
2-1/4, 3, 2-1/4
Sometimes uneven strips make it more visually interesting
Even strips require less 'thinking'
